A magnificent antique French solitaire ring from the late 19th Century bestowed with a remarkable oval cut Ceylon sapphire with an intense, cornflower blue hue and an unusual off-centre culet.
The stone in this vintage Ceylon sapphire ring is believed to have originated from Sri-Lanka (Ceylon) and has been weighed at an outstanding 19.16 carats and shows no signs of heat treatment. This is all detailed in a comprehensive gem certification that accompanies the Victorian era ring.
The Sri-Lankan Sapphire, or “Ceylon” sapphire has been a favourite of kings and royalty throughout history and was regarded as a stone of truth, wisdom and strength. The stone in this sapphire ring is valued for its striking blue hue which tends to be brighter and more vibrant than most other sapphires.
The sapphire in this antique Victorian ring is held in a raised 18ct gold claw mount that crowns it prominently atop the finger for all to see. The Victorian era ring features ornate, scrolling artistry on the sides with a thick gold band at the back decorated with a high relief engraving of tangled foliate motifs leading to a heart at the back stamped with an 18ct French Eagle mark and maker’s mark.
This is a one of a kind antique statement ring. This sapphire ring is very rare and in pristine condition. The workmanship is exceptional, and the sapphire is truly breathtaking to behold.
